feral dog in my neighborhood, LBD (Lucky Black Dog), who had been seen for 4 or 5 years. Animal Control had spent many weeks trying to trap him. Some people disliked him roaming around. Others, like myself, fed him and attempted to win his trust. He had just gotten to the point of allowing me to touch his head for a single pat, when he vanished.

Someone (and I think I know who) shot him and dumped his body out of town. Those who had loved him, were heartbroken.
