1. Not long before VE Day there were a couple sinkings of German ships loaded with mostly civilians

Pretty sure one was a hospital ship and the other a requisitioned liner, both evacuating Germans ahead of the advancing red army. . Sunk by RAF fighter-bombers, I suppose that would have been in the Baltic. I believe they were the two of the largest loss of life ever for a ship sinking.
