It was decided that her 3 year old daughter (me) would fly with her while my older brother and sister would drive out with my dad when he got leave shortly thereafter. We had to change planes in New Orleans. Our connecting flight was Eastern Airlines flight 304. We missed our connection. The flight crashed into Lake Pontchartrain. In theses days way before cell phones and the internet, it took 4-5 hours before my dad found out he had not lost his wife and youngest daughter.
