What a quandary for you that would be.

Many times, it's not just the TV and laptop taken. Things like wallets, ID, check books, house keys, work keys, can involve extremely high post crime costs and can degrade one's credit and bank account for years. Many people cannot afford to replace things like work tools, car keys and ergo car, without sacrificing other necessities as they live paycheck to paycheck. It seems like you are fortunate enough to not be in that situation or perhaps we should contact the Vatican and tell them we have a new Mother Teresa on our hands.

And why call the cops if avoiding gun deaths is paramount with you? How do you think that they will ultimately apprehend the suspect if he decides not to give up? Would not calling the cops place the burglar in the sites of guns down the road? Speaking of the road, perhaps the burglar takes your car that you have graciously given him and kills two innocent bystanders as he speeds away. I guess a couple of car deaths are a small price to pay to demonize guns.

There are plenty of cases where citizens use guns irresponsibly. Why make fools of the anti-gun movement by picking a case where the home owner showed more restraint than many police do nowadays? Then you double down with a solution that places your financial health and life in the hands of a criminal to say nothing of letting a home invasion criminal go free to strike again.
