4. My guess at why US won't let Israel bomb Iran.

Because it would be the equivalent of the US bombing Iran. If Israel starts bombing and things get out of control (e.g., fighter jet shot down, Israel gets bombed from within and without, etc.) in retaliation for it bombing Iran, as an ally, this country will be compelled to come to Israel's "rescue".

And this is already calculated by Israel into its military strategy. We're the second string on the team. And technically it would be as though this country were indirectly bombing Iran through a proxy, Israel.
