In reply to the discussion: What are you reading the week of December 11, 2011? [View all]getting old in mke
(813 posts)at Bouchercon in San Francisco that had Eisler, Gayle Lynds, SJ Rozan and Mark Billingham (for the British POV) entitled "Who's afraid of Glenn Beck: Are liberals out in the cold with the current kingmaker of thrillers?" A very, very interesting hour from four liberal authors writing thrillers. Eisler has written on-line pretty extensively--and directly addresses in his books torture in particular. It did make the last 20% of "Inside Out" go clunk--break neck thriller comes to a standstill for an anti-torture sermon--but he managed to work things into the plot better in the most recent one. (Those pages would have been great if taken out of the story as an essay appendix...though if you read him on-line you'll find the same material.)
John Rain is a marvelous character. Ben Treven, his other series character, is fun but less complex.
