I couldn't get past the first few chapters of the first book. My younger son, who'd read it, assured me it was really good and I should give it another try. So I did. And loved almost all of it. So I'll suggest you give it another try, but if it doesn't work for you, there are a lot of other books out there you will love.

Cuckoo's Calling is pretty good, but the second book by Galbraith, The Silkworm is much better, just like any new writer who is hitting his stride.

I also loved The Casual Vacancy by Rowling. A lot of people didn't get it because it is of course not remotely a Harry Potter book.
