33. Excellent point about comic books! My experience was much the same!

Although I don't recall ever having comic books read to me by either parent. Still I was never begudged a new comic - my favorites were Casper the Friendly Ghost and Little Lulu. I recall having some Disney comics, too, but mostly I liked other comics better. Like you, I was also into Archie, and Betty & Veronica - but that was later on. But I would pretty much read any comic book I could get my hands on.

And Classics Illustrated! They were wonderful! The main one that stands out in my memory is The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I read that one over and over, repeatedly weeping over the unfair fates of Esmeralda and Quasimodo. I remember having quite a large collection of many titles that I saved into my early adolescence.

Like you, I've never gotten into modern day graphic novels, for the same reason: "I vastly prefer the image in my head, to someone else's image..."
