Goodreads Book Discussion Group--Starts 1-11-12 [View all]

I have created a Discussion Group on Goodreads.
http://www.goodreads.com/group/invite/61206.DU_Fiction_Group?invite_key=d4543adbcd85368658f0aaa52f0ced838273329e&utm_medium=email&utm_source=copypastegroup

I have never used the site before so don't know much at this point. My plan now is to pick a very short classic and run a test book discussion for anyone interested to see if we like that format better of want to keep it here on DU.

My proposal for this discussion is Old Man and the Sea. I pick this for purely selfish reasons--we are starting that on Tuesday in my American Lit class. Even if you have previously read the book, just hop into the group and try out the format--that is the important part of this exercise.

We will still do the visit from the goon squad here on DU and see which we like better.

Here is the reading schedule for the novel (I realize it is a short date, but it's a short book and the point of this is to try out the discussion format of Goodreads):

Start discussion of entire book: 1-11-12 (I will put up divisions in the discussion group--assuming I can do that--that correspond to the 4 days over which the novella takes place).
Finish discussion of entire book 1-18-12 (Certainly discussion can go longer, but this is the start date of the good squad discussion)

Please go ahead and tell me if this is a crazy idea. I tend to be the person that just jumps in and gets going with something and work out the kinks along the way. I know that doesn't work for everyone (which is why I am doing a short classic for the first one).
