You are right, Australia is larger than Greenland, but Australia is a continent, so it is technically not wrong to say that Greenland is the largest island in the world.
(Bonus question: what is the largest island in the continental US?)

I was actually afraid that Trump might have some inclination to consider taking it by force. He has announced that we are going to open a consulate there, and they are typically guarded by US Marines, usually just a 3 or 4 member group for a friendly country. I was worried that Trump might announce we would have a Marine detachment of 25,000 for security.

bonus question: Long Island. Hawaiian islands, Puerto Rico and an island off the coast of Alaska are all bigger, but most people forget that Long Island is indeed an island.
