Cousins is getting $24 M to lead a team to, basically, a .500 record over his tenure.
Here is my theory: while some QBs are great, most are only as good as the pieces put around them.
So I'd take his $24 M and spend it as follows:
- Sign LT Nate Solder from the Pats. Yes, he will be expensive, but a quality LT is worth his weight in gold.
- A lot of people want to see if they can draft Mayfield. I don't think we are there yet. Instead, go sign whichever QB the Vikings let go -- either Keenum or Bridgewater.
- Richard Rogers is being paid cheap money at Green Bay. He's younger than Niles Paul and had twice the yards per catch with about the same number of receptions. I like Paul, so maybe we sign Rogers and then a) have two decent catching tight ends or b) use Paul in an H-back type role.
- Isaiah Crowell (Cleveland) and Dion Lewis (NE) were 900 yard runners and 200 yard pass catchers that both are very affordable. Crowell intrigues me because he put those numbers up on a horrible team. With good linemen - who knows.
- With whatever money is left, I'd make a run at the best Defensive End I could get in FA.
In the draft - I don't know if he'll be there, but I'd like DT Vita Vea out of Washington. 6'5" & 344
