7. MORE on Kate, from her saintly friend, Nance

we are MEANT to follow this story:

Hello dear friends, Some in reading my message line may think that I have gone over the brink in my new cosmic address. But as you will see, laughing when sh*t happens is the story I want to share today. It is a metaphor for how to live in these difficult times.

Since July when Kate learned she had stage 4 pancreatic cancer, we have spent many times together laughing in spite of that. Of course there were days when humor was hard to find---but not that many.
Brad and Kate are very funny people--I love Brad's dry sense of humor and I adore Kate's quirkiness. They mean it when they say they are having fun at CTC.

Today was day with more laughter than usual in my phone call to Kate. I called right before lunch to find she had been moved to a regular hospital room---intensive care and intermediate care was no longer needed. This is ,in part, because for Kate sh*t happened today and so did farting. (Remember she had a foot of her bowel removed and re sectioned only five days ago.)

We laughed with joy that simple, often taken for granted, bodily functions were returning. We shared joy also that Kate had mushroom soup and pudding for lunch with her calm tea. No more IV feeding or clear liquids for her----real food. Maybe tomorrow mashed potatoes with gravy might appear. We laughed about these things and other things. Then Kate said this, which is today's contemplation:

In these very dark times with so much suffering, we must shine our light. Kate Silberberg

Kate is correct, I think. In my experience, the spell of suffering is broken when I experience joy and gratitude. An instant change in cosmic address occurs. From this vantage point and experience, it is easy to access the healing where it already exists.

I want to thank Brad and Kate for sharing their journey with me and for allowing me to share some of it with you. Kate is my sweet pea. Which reminds me, the catheter is gone, too. Yippee!

So dear friends, it is my wish that you find joy today. It is my wish that you smile and shine your light to illuminate the healing where it already exists despite what may be occurring around you.

Love and blessings, Nance
