4. One minor quibble

And this is only my own bugaboo. I realize that others will feel differently.

Immediately after the election I thought the best thing I could do was to donate to experienced organizations that would help to fight the worst depredations of a Trump administration. At first, I put the ACLU near the top of my list. But in thinking about it, I decided to kick them off. Why? Because the ACLU's major interest, in my experience, has been to protect First Amendment rights. And that has meant a long history of also protecting the rights of the very white supremacist groups that helped bring Trump to power. I do not want their rights to free speech protected by my money, or their racism or anti-Semitism. This is a type of enabling I can't personally countenance.

So what did I do? We doubled our annual contribution to the Southern Poverty Law Center instead.

Again, this is just my opinion.
