We actually have people in this democracy, in fact a few right here on DU who fail to see that the people have the right to 'own the streets' when their government is no longer representing them.

But it is also a story of how a crews of determined anarchists, educated a new generation of students, in the importance of owning the streets.


The danger of that kind of thinking, that there are limits on political speech, that the people should only occupy the public square with permits and time limits set by the government, shows how far from a democracy we have strayed here in the US.

I was in awe of those students, that was definitely an historical moment and a lesson to people everywhere that when they are right, they CAN prevail, but I know it was not easy.
