A recently retired Madison police sergeant received the departments first Courageous Service Award for her inspiring strength and determination in her struggle with cancer.
Madison Police Chief Noble Wray presented the award Tuesday to
Sgt. Karen Krahn, 54, in a private ceremony at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, where a horse from the departments Mounted Patrol and an officer on a motorcycle visited her bedside.
Krahn joined the department on April 24, 1995. Described as a compassionate and proactive officer who quickly earned the respect and admiration of her co-workers, Krahn was promoted to sergeant in 2002.
