7. What the Aurora cops did was totally outrageous. I've seen the films.

They are far from the only ones. Atlanta, most of the departments in the Phoenix area, and the LA County Sheriff’s department have equal horror stories. But ordering “detainee” often without the requisite reasonable articulable suspicion of a crime, is a STANDARD power play/humiliation tactic supposedly based on the single most important thing in law enforcement: officer safety. There is almost no amount of pain inflicted, no misunderstanding of the law, no trampling of civil rights, that police departments (and police unions) won’t forgive in the interest of officer safety.
