Obviously Social Security payments (among other payments) are made through the Treasury Department. According to my research, almost 100 percent of these payments are made via direct deposit into an individuals bank account. That data (bank account and routing numbers) is present within the Treasury Department payment system. What if someone with access to the system has nefarious plans and they withdraw all monies out of peoples bank accounts? Are there any safeguards in place to prevent this, and even if there is, will they work?
