I don’t even know who you are alluding to, but the question answers itself.Yes of course they should at least know what policies their state had actually implemented, and of course they should be candid and not cover for their lack of knowledge by gaslighting about it.

I often ask myself, would I want the life of an elected official? Heck no. Almost all of them have to spend their time fundraising (unless they are the ones who simply sign a blank check with the devil so that the campaign funds come rolling in like a retainer fee or a second salary.) .
If you’re not in the devil’s payroll, you’ve got to build a brand, build networks, fundraise, and schmooze with the small handfuls of rich-enough people willing to back you with little or no financial ROI. If they excel at those things, they may not be spending much time doing their research.

I suspect that an extraordinarily talented progressive like AOC manages to keep conscience clean AND get funds from a wide swath of idealistic supporters. Likewise, the extraordinarily talented Obama threaded a needle and had the thuggish though highly skilled Rahm to help remove obstacles and keep the snakes away. Both of them also do their research.

Getting to high office in this country’s current political condition is like trying to win an election among the residents of hell and of purgatory. (An apt analogy since half of the country cannot let go of their hate and the other half are tormented by waiting for a kinder and gentler world.) Hell has already done a hostile takeover of nearly all of the major media C-suites.

Integrity is most important but so is electability.
