5. Meeting my big, fluffy dog brought my sister a long way out of her dementia for a while when they visited.

In fact, she announced she had to pee, and shuffled herself to the bathroom. My brother-in-law was dumbfounded as she was barely able to walk most of the time, and he said it had been over 2 years since she recognized her need to empty her bladder, let alone make her way to do it properly.

Dogs are magic. Give the Dunc a big hug for me. I love my current dogs, the big St Bernard cross and the wiry Portuguese Podengo rescued from the desert here, but will ALWAYS miss my huge Golden boy. Still shedding tears after nearly 13 years.
