(2,728 posts)34. Hiccups have been a lifelong problem for me
I get them fairly often. Nothing would get rid of them. I would count them, going for the Guinness record, but would usually get bored around 200-300. My stomach would first just get upset, and then nausea would set in from the constant clenching of my diaphragm. Anything I might have been doing would have to stop because they were so disruptive. Of course finishing dinner was out of the question so I just left my spouse to eat alone.
Then I discovered a small straw called HiccAway. After decades of debilitating hiccupsthey are gone in about 10 seconds using that straw! Its truly amazing. A life-changer for me!

OP
Hiccups are air in the stomach triggering an aborted expulsion repeatedly

Thank you very much for your interesting post. I will give it a try. Usually the hiccups start if I eat too fast.

Yes, then it is easy to inadvertently swallow some air if eating too fast. Commonest cause. . .nt

Thank you boonecreek. I have tried and it didn't work. I think after holding my breath, I take a large gulp of air in.

I know that this is a weird one, get a large grocery shopping bag, and put it over your head, and breath for a few
