Tree ID class, all they have is buds, leaf scares, twig arrangement, and ………..bark! They had to listen closely. 😉 Plus taste and smell actually are used for some species.
One joke they did not appreciate, except the ones watching that knew better, was have them taste a not ripe persimmon or Indian turnip, (Root of a Jack in the Pulpit flower)
For final exam in Winter ID, (105 species), I would laugh at the ones that scratched the poison ivy twig for scent. That is not an ID technique for Ivy.
(Should have studied better)
