cardiologist seems to think it's not a good idea at her age (88). She just had the "jumper start", which sometimes resets the rhythm. She relies on metoprolol, which is not as strong, but more selective, than propranolol. (Plus Xarelto to avoid clots, plus levothyroxin to offset the side effects of Xarelto ...)

Lots of luck to both of you. Mom's lived with her condition for years now, but no one has ever said her condition was genetic, so maybe not as reassuring as we'd like.
