Artists United Against Apartheid was founded by activist and performer Steven Van Zandt (Little Steven) in 1985. Other organizers included Arthur Baker, Rick Dutka, Owen Epstein and Danny Schechter. They produced the anti-apartheid record Sun City. A related video was also produced. The lyrics of the song supported the cultural boycott of South Africa and included the words "I
I
I
Ain't gonna play Sun City!" Sun City was a resort complex for whites in the black homeland of Bophuthatswana. The artist royalties from the record, video and related book were donated to The Africa Fund and used to support political prisoners and their families inside South Africa, the educational and cultural needs of South African exiles, and educational efforts of anti-apartheid groups in the United States.
