They made an indelible impression at the bar by stiffing the bartender. He remembered them when he saw the video of them torching the Christmas tree next to the marker. He remembered that they paid for their drinks with a credit card and he had the receipts.

If you're going to commit a crime, it's not a good idea to leave a trail behind you.
