Most Americans oppose Trump's push on Greenland, poll shows
(Politico) Americans broadly oppose President Donald Trumps latest foreign policy ambitions in Greenland, according to a new poll released Thursday, and are skeptical about U.S. incursions abroad. In a CNN poll released Thursday, 75 percent of those surveyed oppose the U.S. attempting to take control of Greenland, including 52 percent who strongly reject the idea. Just one in four respondents said they support efforts to acquire the semi-autonomous Danish territory, which Trump has argued is vital to U.S. national security and strengthening NATO.
Iceland demands answers from US after Trump ally cracks 52nd state joke
(Politico EU) First Greenland, next Iceland? Reykjavík is concerned about Americas growing territorial ambitions, after POLITICO reported that President Donald Trumps nominee for ambassador to Iceland Billy Long joked in Washington that Iceland will be the 52nd U.S. state and hell be governor. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has contacted the U.S. Embassy in Iceland to verify the veracity of the alleged comments, Icelands foreign ministry told POLITICO in a statement.
CBS News report on ICE officer's injuries drew 'huge internal concern'
(The Guardian) Some CBS News employees expressed concern after the network cited two anonymous US officials on Wednesday to report that the ICE officer who fatally shot Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis suffered internal bleeding to the torso after the incident. CBS initially published the account about officer Jonathan Ross on X, formerly Twitter. About 30 minutes later, the network followed up with another post, containing a link to an article by two correspondents that similarly cited two US officials briefed on his medical condition.
After military raid in which dozens were killed, Trump takes medal from Venezuelan opposition leader
(ABC News) President Donald Trump met Thursday with Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who presented him with her Nobel Peace Prize medal. The president called it a "wonderful gesture of mutual respect." "María presented me with her Nobel Peace Prize for the work I have done," Trump wrote on his social media platform. He also said that Machado was a "wonderful woman who has been through so much" and that it was a great honor to meet her.
With a tiny majority, House GOP leaders tell members to show up unless it's 'life or death'
(NBC News) As the slim House Republican majority hangs on a razors edge, lawmakers are getting a stern warning from party leadership: You should be absent only for matters of life and death. That message has been delivered to members in recent party meetings and private conversations, according to multiple lawmakers, and it has taken on an increasing sense of urgency as the GOPs margins have shrunk even further in recent weeks with the unexpected death of Rep. Doug LaMalfa, R-Calif., and the shock midsession retirement of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga.
Bari Weiss approved unverified, un-fact-checked story about Ross'
(Raw Story) A report from anonymous sources claiming ICE agent Jonathan Ross suffered internal bleeding after fatally shooting 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good more than a week ago faced skepticism from CBS News staff but received approval from editor in chief Bari Weiss, a report states. According to the Guardian, two senior network officials questioned the reporting's credibility due to missing crucial details. Their concerns were dismissed during the approval process.

Infant needs CPR after feds unleash flash-bangs on family van with 6 kids inside
(Raw Story) The father of three children who were hospitalized in Minneapolis on Wednesday night accused federal agents of launching flash-bang munitions and tear gas into their family van after they were caught up in protests against the Trump administrations deadly immigration crackdown. Officers threw flash bangs and tear gas in my car. I got six kids in the car, Shawn Jackson told KMSP. My 6-month-old cant even breathe. The explosions were strong enough to trigger the cars airbags.
When protesters become the Other
(Salon) Donald Trump speaks the language of autocrats and demagogues fluently. His followers hear it as something beautiful instead of as poison for their hearts and minds. In Minneapolis, Chicago, across the United States and beyond, this authoritarian logic is producing lethal results. Renee Good was killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer on Jan. 7 in Minneapolis. She was serving as a legal observer, volunteering to document and protest ICE enforcement, which is constitutionally-protected behavior. Her killing was tragic, preventable and predictable.
