Most Americans oppose Trump's push on Greenland, poll shows

(Politico) Americans broadly oppose President Donald Trump’s latest foreign policy ambitions in Greenland, according to a new poll released Thursday, and are skeptical about U.S. incursions abroad. In a CNN poll released Thursday, 75 percent of those surveyed oppose the U.S. “attempting to take control of Greenland,” including 52 percent who strongly reject the idea. Just one in four respondents said they support efforts to acquire the semi-autonomous Danish territory, which Trump has argued is vital to U.S. national security and strengthening NATO.

CBS initially published the account about officer Jonathan Ross on X, formerly Twitter. About 30 minutes later, the network followed up with another post, containing a link to an article by two correspondents that similarly cited “two US officials briefed on his medical condition”.

With a tiny majority, House GOP leaders tell members to show up unless it's 'life or death'

(NBC News) As the slim House Republican majority hangs on a razor’s edge, lawmakers are getting a stern warning from party leadership: You should be absent only for matters of life and death. That message has been delivered to members in recent party meetings and private conversations, according to multiple lawmakers, and it has taken on an increasing sense of urgency as the GOP’s margins have shrunk even further in recent weeks with the unexpected death of Rep. Doug LaMalfa, R-Calif., and the shock midsession retirement of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga.

When protesters become the Other

(Salon) Donald Trump speaks the language of autocrats and demagogues fluently. His followers hear it as something beautiful instead of as poison for their hearts and minds. In Minneapolis, Chicago, across the United States and beyond, this authoritarian logic is producing lethal results. Renee Good was killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer on Jan. 7 in Minneapolis. She was serving as a legal observer, volunteering to document and protest ICE enforcement, which is constitutionally-protected behavior. Her killing was tragic, preventable and predictable.
